Finding these baskets basically made my night. Not only are they stunning and handmade, but they are preserving a cultural traditional and at the same time promoting economic and financial independency and stability.
However, sometimes it seems like there are a lot of shops like this out there. Organizations and people who claim to support families and individuals in Africa by taking their baskets and selling them abroad. While that does sound a bit idealistic and naive to me, I do like to do conscious shopping and support where I can. What are your thoughts on consumer shopping such as this?
